Extension

As many Chromebooks run mainly on the web because they are too weak to run any official applications, they are using Extensions.

By looking at the top right in the extensions tab you would see this icon

While clicking on it, it shows the following

This indicates that the teachers are using Lightspeed Classroom to see what their student status is, the student would have to choose Working, Need Help, or Done to show their teacher what their status is.
